Phil Black, or “Blacky” to his friends and colleagues is an auctioneer.

However, Blacky is an auctioneer with a difference.

Blacky’s style is unique. He is often referred to as the singing auctioneer, and has even performed in front of a twenty piece orchestra, with music especially composed for the occasion.

You can hear a short excerpt from this performance, by clicking on the link.

Blacky as a youngster was fascinated by the Leroy Van Dyke song, “The Auctioneer”, and instead of keeping cattle he began a career by selling them.

After excelling at the “Aussie” auction way, Blacky had further ambitions in the auctions arena, and travelled to the US to learn the American way of auctioneering.

He has now combined the Aussie and US styles into a style of his own. Like the auctioneer in the Leyroy Van Dyke song, Blacky obtained his Commercial pilot’s license and travelled just about anywhere for his unique auctions. On the side of his vehicle and plane he had printed, “Have Gavel Will Travel” and “I sell the earth and everything on it!”.

In addition to auctioning Real Estate, Rural Properties, Livestock, Earth Moving Equipment and just about anything else in most States of Australia and overseas, Blacky has conducted hundreds of auctions for charity. One of these I attended was the Brisbane Lions annual Gala Auction attended by 900 people, which I understand raised in excess of $300,000. Blacky was introduced at this auction by the MC as “Phil Black, the best auctioneer ever”.
